Presentation

The Faculty of Humanities of Cordoba was created in 1971 as a University College dependent on the University of Seville. Two years later it became a Faculty at the newly founded University of Cordoba. The Faculty of Humanities is located in an emblematic building that was the former Cardenal Salazar Hospital. The Faculty of Humanities houses the Chapel of San Bartolome, one of the most important examples of Mudejar art in the province of Cordoba.

Services and Facilities

The building which houses the Faculty of Humanities covers an area of 10,821 m2. The Faculty offers the following services and facilities:

  1. A library with more than 100,000 volumes.
  2. A computer room equipped with 35 computers.
  3. Geography and Prehistory Lab.
  4. Image Processing Service.
  5. Copy Service.
  6. Cafeteria and Dining Service.

 

University Life

  1. The degree programmes offered at the Faculty of Humanities have a duration of five academic years, with the exception of Translation and Interpretation, which has a duration of four academic years.
  2. Humanities and Translation and Interpretation: Students holding a diploma or who have successfully completed the first cycle of a degree programme are eligible for direct admission to the second cycle of either degree programme. For admission to the programme in Translation and Interpretation, students must pass an entrance exam.
  3. Spanish Philology and English Studies: Students who have successfully completed the first cycle of a language degree programme (with the exception of Slavic languages) are eligible for admission to these two degree programmes.
  4. Doctoral Programme
  5. A wide range of Doctoral Programmes are offered by all of the academic departments of the Faculty. These programmes are designed for students to obtain research qualifications and a PhD Degree following the completion of a PhD dissertation.

 

Internships

The Faculty of Humanities is in the process of establishing an internship programme with several firms and institutions in the provinces of Seville and Cordoba. Agreements have been reached with diverse sectors, including hotel and restaurant management, communications, translation, cultural management, Spanish as a foreign language, publishing, art galleries, trade unions, museums and a number of Ministries of the regional Government of Andalusia. In collaboration with Fundecor, students are offered the possibility of taking a “Course for Career Planning Officers”, participating in European volunteer programmes and, in the near future, conducting internships at companies in the United States and Canada.

 

International Relations

The Faculty of Humanities maintains exchange programmes with 56 universities in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Sweden and Switzerland under the Socrates-Erasmus mobility programme.

The PRESHCO consortium (Oberling College, Smith College, Trinity College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College and the College of Wooster) offers two annual scholarships to students at the Faculty of Humanities. These scholarships cover accommodation and tuition costs for students interested in spending one academic year abroad at Wellesley College or Wheaton College.
